Begich the Third, a conduit for spreading DOGE lies
Rep. Nick Begich the Third doesn’t get it. The DOGE boys are not under attack because some of them are young.
They are under attack because the effort is riddled with incompetence and lies, from Musk/Trump on down.
This is not about whether young people “are capable of doing great things.” It’s about blind ignorance and abysmal behavior by the Musk/Trump wrecking crew.
Firing nuclear weapons inspectors. Firing FAA employees. Firing disabled veterans. Sending the identical note about poor performance to employees regardless of their performance. Random firings. Creating chaos. Trusting 19-year-old Big Balls, who was fired from a private company for leaking secrets.
The lie that there are millions of people over 100 getting Social Security. The lie that the U.S. spent $50 million on condoms for Gaza. The lie that an $8 million contract was an $8 billion contract. The lie about spending $8 million for tourism in Egypt.
In audio from a Fairbanks event, Begich told a constituent that he couldn’t do anything about DOGE budget cuts.
"I was fired," one person said. "Now I have no choice but to leave that community and probably leave Alaska, and so I just don't understand how these budget cuts are helpful to any Alaskans or their communities. And I'm just wondering what you plan to do about this."
He is a member of Congress, which has the power of the purse, as Popular Information notes
“In another exchange, Begich said he found out about budget cuts impacting Alaska ‘on Twitter’ and ‘had no idea these things were going on’ in advance. Begich claimed that the same situation was true ‘under Biden,’ but did not provide any examples. He also did not mention that he was not a member of Congress during Biden's presidency,” Judd Legum wrote.
It doesn’t help that Nick the Third copies posts from DOGE and passes them off as the truth, flatterng the world’s richest man.
“We should be thankful that Elon Musk and his team are willing to come and do this work. We have to remember, this is one of our nation’s greatest innovators,” Begich the Third said February 4 on Fox.
Begich’s so-called “town hall” this week, controlled by Begich’s employees, was a Begich propaganda show.
It was set up to take questions from supporters and limit questions that would make Begich uncomfortable. The 50-minute event began with a 20-minute speech by Begich.
The best coverage of this debacle was in the Juneau Empire.
“The first person selected to ask a question was PeggyAnn McConnochie, a longtime local Republican party official who campaigned for Begich,” Empire reporter Jasz Garrett wrote.
“I am so thankful to be able to have this opportunity,” McConnochie said by phone. “Would you do me a favor please and express what your priorities are in Congress for the next two years?”
The answer was what you would expect.
There was a good question that made it past Begich’s handlers:
“I’m a lifelong Republican, but I am in the majority, I think, with a lot of Americans, a lot of Alaskans, that are really concerned that we have an executive branch that is more than willing to push or remove the guardrails that are on the executive branch, and what we need from Congress and from the courts is to play that checks and balances role, not to oppose——-”
At that moment the line went dead and the question was never finished.
